Uniform stone tiles at the edge of the pool make a smooth transition from the pool to the rougher stone tiles of the seating and walking area. The round fire pit at the right of the picture will lend even more of a natural setting when a fire is burning – again, a contrast to the other smooth features of the swimming pool. The semi-wild plants in the landscaping continue this theme without being overwhelming and taking away the balanced ambiance.

This exceptional inground swimming pool picture takes swimming pool design to its most breathtaking. The combination of ambient in-pool lighting gives depth, drama and a feeling of tropical waters and the lighting outside of the pool accentuates the stonework around the edge of the swimming pool. The varied heights and colors of the plants in the landscaping design are also highlighted.

As you can see in this swimming pool picture, the smooth curves of the free-form swimming pool is grounded with heavy rectangular stones on the upper left-hand side. The stone serves another function by incorporating fountains that splash into the edges of the swimming pool.

The stonework is continued on the walkway of the swimming pool – the thick, flat pool tiles are the same color and consistency of the fountain stones and are left a bit rough to make the walkway of the swimming pool less slippery.

This swimming pool picture shows that even small swimming pools can be exotic and original. The use of the wooden fencing in this swimming pool design serves two purposes – one is to provide privacy and the other gives a sense of swimming in a pool far away from the civilized world that surrounds the swimming pool.
